May is the month of kisses. Check out this unique home decor inspired by lips, from a keychain and vases to a sofa, soft throw and pillow.
In the Czech Republic, where I am originally from, May is the month of Love. The first of May is officially the main love celebration day. On that day, you are supposed to go and kiss your loved one under a blooming cherry tree.
(Btw, the first of May is also Workers’ day in the Czech Republic, but I’m focusing on the romantic side of this day because of the theme of this blog post!)
The love theme of the month of May originates from the Czech romantic poet Karel Hynek Macha (1810-1836) author of the epic poem Maj (May).
Karel Hynek Mácha: Máj (May)
Beginning verses, translation by Edith Pargeter
Late evening, on the first of May –
The twilit May – the time of love.
Meltingly called the turtle-dove,
Where rich and sweet pinewoods lay.
Whispered of love the mosses trail,
The flowering tree as sweetly lied,
The rose’s fragrant sigh replied
To love-songs of the nightingale.
In shadowy woods the burnished lake
Darkly complained a secret pain,
By circling shores embraced again;
And heaven’s clear sun leaned down to take
A road astray in azure deeps,
Like burning tears the lover weeps.
Because of this Czech tradition, I came up with this idea to find some home décor ideas inspired by lips.
